"Wizzards Tattoo & Body Piercing"

My name is Jerry Billard. I was Born
In Isle-Aux-Mort,
Nfld.
My first experience with tattoos started at a very young age. My dad collected tattoos when he worked on the Great Lakes. Over the years they faded and I used to color them in all the time with markers. My moms brother, Bill Robinson used to tattoo all of his friends and himself every time they'd get drinking, with a sewing needle wrapped in thread, using cigarette ashes and milk, or india ink. I was mystified by all this.
I got My First Tattoo When I was 13 Years Old. It Was A Cross, Hand Poked Into My Left Upper Arm, Which I did myself with a sewing needle wrapped in thread and a bottle of India Ink. Which I Purchased for $5.00 from my cousin Gilroy Billard. (The same guy hosting this web site now!)
That Was it! I Loved Tattoos From Then On. I Tattooed almost all my friends back home, and Myself, but meanwhile always perfecting my procedure.
I made several Electric Tattooing Machines From Which i got the idea from people that served time. It consisted of a Generator Motor, Spoon and Pen shaft, and a sharpened Guitar String for the needle...OUCH!
I got my first professional tattoo working at the circus in 1990. We used to vacation every summer to North Sydney, and I would work for the week at the circus in the booths and on the rides at the Exhibition Grounds. I moved to north Sydney the summer of 1991 and continued my yearly ritual of working at the circus.
This was when I started working with the local Tattoo Artist there. Scrubbing Floors, Talking To Customers and Running Errands. He knew I liked tattoos and offered me to work for tattoos. Well I instantly gave up my circus work, hehe. I always wanted to be trained, hands on by him, he knew I had done several hundred homemade tattoos, but he always declined, so I carefully watched every tattoo he done and mimicked his procedure.
I purchased my first professional tattoo machine in 1993, and started getting real serious. But When the Local Tattoo Artist found this out he didn't speak to me anymore.
1994 I opened Wizzards Tattoo.
1997 I went to Ontario and familiarized myself with the new Body Piercing procedures and began Body Piercing from our studio in June 1997. We then legally changed our name from Wizzards Tattoo to Wizzards Tattoo & Body Piercing.
