TATTOO AFTERCARE |
REMOVE BANDAGE IN 1-2 HOURS
The purpose of the bandage is to protect your new
tattoo from the air. The first few hours your tattoo will seep some blood and
body fluids. Do not be alarmed. On larger tattoos you may wish to leave the
bandage on longer. The bandage should not be left on for longer than 6 hours.
The bandage should be left on for a minimum of 1 hour.
WASH TATTOO WITH SOAP & WATER
This is one of the most important steps in the care of
your tattoo. As soon as you remove the bandage, you must wash the tattoo
thoroughly with warm water, mild soap, and your clean hand. The area will be
tender, but it is important to remove all the dried blood and body fluids. DO
NOT USE A WASH CLOTH ON YOUR TATTOO. When the tattoo is thoroughly cleaned, pat
it dry with a clean towel.
APPLY A THIN COATING OF TATTOO GOO
A very thin coating of medicated ointment should be
applied to the tattoo at least 3-5 times daily. TATTOO GOO is very highly
recommended. Polysporin is an alternate supplement which is available at your
local pharmacy. A good rule of thumb is that if you have enough ointment on
your tattoo that you can wipe some off then you have too much on. Ointment
should not be applied more than 5 times daily. NEVER USE VASELINE, ALCOHOL,
CALAMINE LOTION, PEROXIDE, OR OTHER TYPES OF OINTMENT WITHOUT FIRST CONTACTING
WIZZARDS TATTOO AND BODY PIERCING.
APPLY OINTMENT 3-5 TIMES DAILY FOR 7-10
DAYS
Your new tattoo should be washed and medicated 3-5
times a day for the next 7-10 days. Wash your tattoo with warm water, mild
soap, and your fingertips (always wash your hands before touching your tattoo).
Do not use a wash cloth. After washing pat it dry, don't rub it, and apply a
very thin coat of ointment. After 7-10 days do not use the ointment any longer.
Beginning on the 7-10th day after you receive your tattoo, If it is not healed,
apply a non-scented alcohol-free moisturizing lotion such as lubriderm,
dermassage, or vitamin E cream at least 5 times daily.
AVOID EXCESSIVE WATER AND DIRECT
SUNLIGHT
Do not swim for at least 3 weeks after you receive
your tattoo. You may bathe or shower with your new tattoo. Do not allow the
shower to beat directly on the fresh or healing tattoo. This may prematurely
release any flaking that you may have and result in color loss. Always pat your
tattoo dry. Do not be alarmed if some of the flaking should fall off. This is
normal after 3 to 5 days. Do not expose the tattoo to direct sunlight. A new
tattoo has no sunblocking capabilities and will sunburn in as little as 10
minutes in direct sunlight, sunburn will result in prolonged healing time,
excessive scabbing, and some color loss.
IF A SCAB FORMS DO NOT PICK IT
Most tattoos heal in 5 to 14 days. When properly cared
for by healthy individuals, most tattoos are healed in about 5 to 7 days.
Occasionally a scab will form. If a scab forms do not pick it, or help it to
fall off. When a scab does form, the itching that accompanies it is normal. A
thin coating of lotion will generally ease the itching. If you do pick the scab
a new one will form and a new one will form and will probably have color loss.
After your initial flake falls off, some people experience a secondary flake
known as milky skin. This will go away in a few days with regular application
of lotion.

others. They did not apply your tattoo and cannot know how to better heal it.

the rest of your life. If you are unsure about how your tattoo is healing then
give us a call or stop by and let us evaluate your tattoo's progress.
